Afternoon training was fun, I skipped running and went straight to the pads for a few rds then Dum and I sparred. Man, I tell you for an older guy, heres so fast and fun to spar with. The control was hit or miss with him because he would go into fight mode as soon as he would get hit. It was funny to see him fire up and get serious. Not that he was trying to take me out but he woke up a bit. Then another student and I had 1 rd of boxing sparring but his cardio wasnt too good so we just played around a bit and had a few minutes of conversation after. Its good to ge to get to know some of the guys. Over all, my training style differs from the Thai style but it just depends on what your preferrence is and why you are here training. For me, this style of training is for holiday as they say, meaning vacation. After the training, one of the trainers took Oscar, my wife and I to Lumpinee for the fights. The stadium holds about 2000 people total and by the end of the night, it was about 75% full. Some how, our guide/trainer from the camp, Tim, got our tickets from row for cheaper then what was advertised on the board. I asked the guy sitting next to me what he paid and it ended up being 300 baht more then our tickets. 300 baht equals $8.80 total, the tickets we got were in total $50us-1700 baht. Not too bad for front row. The fights were awesome. These little Thai kids walk around looking like freaking Spartans. Full on six pack and legs like that of a horse. These kids were 12-17 that fought last night and it was crazy to see them get in there and go for it like full grown adults. Our guide Tim, knows everyone, we got to go in the back of the stadium and meet some of the fighters and take a few pics with Oscars sweet camera. Oscar does photography on the side so it works out perfect for Jess and I. Its like havng our own, well, photographer. After the 9 fights that happened, we hit the stores on the street that were fully equiped with TWINS, KING, Lumpine and most Muay Thai items that you would need. When we started shopping, Tim was itching to go party with his friend so he hands us a map with directions for the cab driver to take us back to the camp and a brief description of how to talk to the cab driver. This is why, it cost us 175 baht to get to Lumpinee=5us. with tip, it was 5.88us=200 baht. So when we get a Taxi, he says to go where were going, it would be 550 baht= double basically. Tim said for us not to use a cab and pay a flat rate but to get a meter, so after 1 cab drove up to us to flip us off, which was unexpected, 100 others just drove by. I guess Falang=foreigners arent always welcome out here. 1 cab came up and was say the meter would start at 1200 baht then go up from there, 1200 baht=35us. then drives us to some market and says i take you here cause there are many taxi that pick u up if u no wana pay me. we say stop and let us out, guess what? no freaking taxis were around but the market was sweet, we got to walk around a bit and see some cool things. it actually worked out. So we decide to try the taxi thing again and now were onto the whole thing. After a few attempts, we get a taxi, show him the instructions and he says yes ok, i take you. I was like HELL YA BABY, in my head anyway, on the outside, i acted like i was cool and was waiting to see if he was going to try and pull some crap. I have pretty good sense of direction and when the cab made the right turns and i seen familiar buildings and shops, i was releaved. So he got a lil lost but it all worked out, we got back to the camp for the roughly the same price but i tipped the guy a lil extra and all was good. It was about midnight when we got back and I think the jet lag thing is catching up with me. Maybe not jet lag, I was up at 530am yesterday and went to bed at 1am so long day, so i decided to sleep in and not trian this morning. Oscar and my wife did though, Oscar was sparring a bit this morning and looked really good, man, muay thai is his thing, he is loving it, all of it. its cool to just be here with all the history and just being a part of it is amazing. oh ya, after yesterdays morning training, Jess and I had a foot massage at the hotel. it was sweet, i see why the ladies back in the states get pedicures. Just having the feet worked on is nice. Were off to the pattaya camp today after I finish this journal entry. Check back for the pattaya entries.
